YouthLink – YouthLink Inner City

  • YouthLink Inner City Peer Education Program:
    • for youth who have accessed our drop-in services
    • an opportunity to work at the Centre to develop specific life skills, learn about local community resources and services, build workshop development and facilitation skills and enhance their self-esteem
    • can earn an income
  • Employment Preparation:
    • help youth (16-24) return to school, upgrade their skills or find a job
    • 10-week program four times a year that teaches practical skills in computer repair and literacy combined with an intensive focus on life skills
    • workshops on budgeting, food preparation and nutrition, legal aid, education, substance use and housing. During the program, participants receive three nutritious meals daily, prepared by other youth trainees
    • application and selection process to participate and are paid to complete the program
    • certificate of completion and may use the program as a reference for work or school
    • in 2009, 70% of graduates continued on to find employment, further their education or enroll in job training program
  • Housing Support:
    • Housing Access and Follow-up Support Workers help youth to find, secure and sustain housing by providing a broad range of support services
    • support in improving their income, employment status and educational status
    • introduce youth to services such as the Furniture Bank, set up bank accounts, obtain identification.
