Did you know 'Chronic late payment' of rent is a legal reason for eviction? That means if you have a history of paying your rent late, your landlord can evict you. The trusteeship project can ensure your rent is paid on time.
How does it work?
If you are on social assistance we can arrange to have your money directly deposited into your bank account. From there NIP transfers your rent into our account and we pay your rent on time. The money left is yours to spend unless you'd like more help saving or managing what is left. If you're on EI or working, each time you get a cheque,a portion is transferred electronically from your bank account to save for your rent. On rent day, we pay your rent. If you sign-up by the 15th, your rent can be paid by the trusteeship project the next month.
What if you don't have a bank account?
No problem. We can help you set up an account with the Metro Credit Union, even without your entire ID.
I already owe rent money to my landlord.
No problem. We can talk with your landlord and try to arrange an agreement to repay the rent you owe. Don't move without calling for legal advice.
